What the Next Season Holds for Chelsea FC (7 Competitions): PREVIEW

Chelsea FC had a pretty weird season in 2011-2012. We have discussed and rewied it enough times, so lets look at what the next season holds for us.We will be competing in 7 tournaments next season. So lets take it one-by-one and predict how far we'll go in each of them.

Premier League

We finsihed 6th in the EPL last season, our worst finish since Roman took over, and trust me, he wasn't pleased about it.

As a top top Club, we are expected to Challenge for the title EVERY season, transiton or no transition.
Coming to the new season, the squad looks pretty good and settled. Not to mention the sky-high confidence running in the club following our Epic UCL win. We got the best goalie in Petr 'Batman' Cech. Our defence needs no intro. Terry, CAhill, Luiz, Ivanovic, Cole, Bertand are all good to go.

Plus we'll be getting a new defender too, so Defence will be strong. Midfield suddenly looks fearsome. From no creativity last season, to bursting with creativity this season. Juan Mata, Ramires, Lampard, KDB, Marko Marin, Hazard, Mikel, Romeu makes up a  pretty creative, harworking unit.

The Forward line is a bit shaky as of now. Nando, Lukaku, Sturridge doesn't make up a very convincing unit. Ofcourse, if Nando starts firing, then it's a different matter altoghether. Sturridge is eccentric. Lukaku is talented. A few more games ought to help him.

If Hulk/Ben Arfa/Joevtic enter the frame, it would look much better. However, I remember our CEO Gourlay saying " We'll have 2-3 stikers hitting 30 goals next season."

Which means Nando and another big name striker. My guess would be Falcao, though I would prefer a Mario Gomez more.

Looking at everything, and considering the time needed for the new squad to settle and being realistic ..
EPL FINISH - 2nd position.

FA CUP

A no-brainer really. We sort of own the FA Cup tournaments. With a squad this strong I easily expect us to win the tournament.

FA CUP FINISH - Champions.

UEFA SUPERCUP

We'll be playing this one against Ath. Madrid, where our next Petr Cech plays. But he won't play against us. Falcao might be a problem.

That is if he doesn't end up in a Chelsea shirt by then. Expect Ath. Madrid to put up a fight, but we'll be too strong for them.

UEFA SUPERCUP FINISH - Champions.

CARLING CUP

The cup taken seriously the least by top teams (unless you happen to be Liverpool trying to salvage your season), I don't expect us to win it this time either.

I expect youngsters to take part heavily in it. Look out for Lukaku, Marin, Bertand and Piazon in this tournament. We'll do well but won't win it.

CARLING CUP FINISH - Semifinals.

FIFA WORLD CLUB CUP

Expect us to win it. Opposition in this tournament just isn't good enough to trouble a squad like ours. Heck, I hardly know a few club names who participate in it.

WORLD CLUB CUP FINISH - Champions.

COMMUNTIY SHIELD

We will be playing against Man City, If I am not wrong. THough their squad is good, our squad's better (I might be being partial).

Should be a cracker of a match. Expect the Goalkeepers to play a vital role in it. A lot will depend on Mata and Hazard to provide ammunition for Nando.

David Silva and Aguero are well-known thorns in our side. That being said, I expect Cech to play exceptionally well.

COMMUNITY SHEILD FINISH - Winners.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The Grandest prize of them all. My fellow Blues, If last season was considered the best, your are in for a excellent treat this time round.

Hell with Barcelona and Madrid, our talent + will to succeed is greater than any of the Messi's and Ronaldo's.

I FULLY expect our now UCL Oldie Champs to combine with hungry new mesmering talent to go all the way. To be honest, Our squad is the most BALANCED squad in the UCL next season.
With Mata getting better, Hazard providing a new dimension .. expect Torres to fire. And if he DOES fire, say Bye-Bye to the so-called powerhouses of Spain.

Mark my words. Next season, you'll see the following headline :
     "CHELSEA CREATE HISTORY BY BECOMING THE FIRST CLUB EVER TO DEFEND THE UCL TITLE"

And then, RDM will get a life-time job at Chelsea and Roman will forget about Pep Gaurdiola.

UCL FINISH - Champions.

So, as you can see, I clearly think, that next season will be the best ever season in our history. And we'll create history.

Because we write our own destiny. The UCL triumph last season was the end for a long time pursued dream for Chelsea.

But as we all know.. THE END IS JUST THE BEGINNING.

Why Daniel Sturridge Should & Will Stay At Chelsea

Daniel Sturridge is a name that evokes mixed reactions from Chelsea fans. It's not hard to understand why. Sturridge has all the tools required to be one of the best: pace, dribbling ability, a powerful left foot & skills that can bamboozle most defenders. However, many Chelsea fans constantly berate him for his attitude & supposed selfishness.

Danny's willingness to shoot from has often left fans frustrated

Mind you, some of that criticism is well-deserved. He has a powerful shot, but has often resorted to shoot-at-sight tactics (some of those shots coming from hopeless angles) when he could have played in a team-mate with a simple pass . At Chelsea, he has been used almost regularly on the right wing, but has stated that he would be best suited to playing as a striker. While I agree that he's a natural striker, it's not uncommon for strikers with his ability to be used on the wings. Thierry Henry played as a winger on a regular basis, as did Nicolas Anelka when he was at Chelsea.
Nevertheless, I believe Daniel Sturridge will be an integral part of Chelsea come next season. Here are 3 reasons why:-


1) Will play as a striker- Last season, Sturridge was often deployed on the right wing due to a lack of better alternatives. I can't honestly say he played badly, but his frustration at not being played as a striker often reflected in his performances. This led to him being frequently benched under Roberto Di Matteo, with the interim manager preferring Salomon Kalou on the right wing. This season, Chelsea will have both Hazard & Marin to call upon as quality wingers, meaning Sturridge will almost certainly be deployed in his preferred position. He may not be Chelsea's No. 1 striker at the moment (Fernando Torres is expected to lead Chelsea's attack next season), but I certainly look forward to seeing him play as a striker.

2) Lack of better clubs willing to buy him- This may seem like a bold statement, considering both Liverpool & Manchester City have expressed a desire in signing him. But I don't see him going to either club. He was an integral part of our Champions League-winning squad, so if he does leave, he will sign for a club who are can offer him 2 things: Regular play time & Champions League football. Neither Liverpool nor Manchester City can offer him both. At Liverpool, he will start almost regularly (considering how poor their strikers were last season), but they aren't part of the Champions League, and don't look like top 4 contenders. Manchester City can offer him Champions League football, but regular play time will be hard to come by. He'll have a hard time making the bench at City. Only Chelsea can offer him regular play-time, Champions League football & of course decent wages.

3) England snub hurt him- When Roy Hodgson announced his squad for Euro 2012, many people were surprised that Daniel Sturridge wasn't included in the final 23-man squad. Danny himself admitted that he was disappointed at not making the final squad, while I was amazed that players like Stewart Downing & Andy Carroll made the squad ahead of him. However, this could prove to be a blessing in disguise for him, as it will spur him on next season & ensure that he takes advantage of every chance handed to him by Di Matteo.

Sturridge will be a key player next season

There are many Chelsea fans who would be happy to see the back of Daniel Sturridge. I'm not one of them. I believe he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world. He has age on his side (he will turn 23 this year), so one can expect him to work hard on developing those aspects of his game that aren't his strengths i.e. his passing, consistency, attitude etc. Throw in the fact that he will play in his preferred position, & I'm sure we can expect better things from Daniel Sturridge in 2012-13.

Season Rewind : Petr Cech

CECH: One of Chelsea's Biggest Hero's last season...

The role Petr Cech played as the Blues secured both the Champions League and FA Cup cannot be understated, with outstanding performances in the finals of both competitions.

After playing in the opening day draw away at Stoke City, Cech missed the subsequent games against West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City, while his form was called into question upon his return, with the game at home to Arsenal, in which we conceded five times, raising more questions than answers.

However, as so often in the past, Cech bounced back and went on to perform with the levels of consistency and maturity which have proved his trademark since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2004.

He almost single-handedly kept us in the Champions League when Barcelona visited west London in the semi-final first leg back in April, denying both Andres Iniesta and Adriano, before making a stunning late save from Carles Puyol.He was equally impressive in the return leg, turning a Lionel Messi effort on to the post with the game on a knife edge as the Blues held on for a memorable victory.

That is world-class goalkeeping...

In the FA Cup Final against Liverpool, meanwhile, with the game delicately poised at 2-1, Cech made arguably the save of the season, clawing an Andy Carroll header on to the bar before Branislav Ivanovic was on hand to clear the danger, and there was more to come.

The Champions League Final in Munich will go down as one of the greatest nights in the club's history, and there is little doubt Cech was a major factor.

As the game moved into extra-time with the scores level at 1-1, Bayern Munich were awarded a penalty. Arjen Robben, the former Chelsea player, was the man entrusted with taking the kick, and as Blues fans feared the worst, Cech made a brilliant save low down to his left to keep us in the game.

Mr. Reliable

His finest moment in a Blue shirt, however, was still to come. With Juan Mata having missed our first kick in the deciding shoot-out, the game appeared to be slipping away.

Cech, though, made two successive saves, from both Olic and Schweinsteiger, providing Didier Drogba with the opportunity to win us the trophy, which he duly accepted.

Players with uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge

Transfer time is always a busy time at Chelsea FC. Whether we are buying or selling players, one can never say that Chelsea are dormant during the transfer period. This year has been no different, & the club have already purchased Marko Marin & Eden Hazard, while also showing interest in a host of other players. 3 players have also left the club: while Didier Drogba made a decision to not renew his contract that expires this year, striker Salomon Kalou and right-back Jose Bosingwa were released by the club.
However, there are still certain Chelsea players whose future remains uncertain. Will they stay? Will they go?  At the moment, these are questions that have no answers. Nevertheless, let us take a look at 4 Chelsea players who may or may not leave the club soon :-

Florent Malouda

1)Florent Malouda- The French international joined Chelsea in 2007 from French club Olympique Lyonnais for a fee of around £13M. Malouda arrived at the club with a formidable reputation, having impressed at his previous club Lyon. However, the winger had a poor first season at the club, scoring 4 goals & providing 7 assists. He managed to find his feet at Chelsea during the latter half  of the 2008-09 season. In the 2009-10 season, he was an integral part of a Double-winning Chelsea side, with impressive figures of 15 goals & 15 assists. His goal-scoring form continued into the next season, as he found the back of the net 14 times. However, the arrival of Spanish winger Juan Mata in 2011 meant that Malouda's first-team opportunities were limited. A few poor performances didn't help his case either. After the club won the Champions League in May this year, Malouda pledged his loyalty to the club. However, the arrival of Marin & Hazard could very well see the Frenchman leave the club sooner rather than later.

Michael Essien 

2)Michael Essien- When Micheal Essien signed for Chelsea in 2005, it brought an end to one of the longest-running transfer sagas in recent memory. Nicknamed "The Bison" for his his energy & presence on the field, Essien was signed from Olympique Lyonnais for a fee of £24.4M, a club transfer record at the time. The Ghanian international quickly established himself as a regular in Jose Mourinho's Chelsea squad, playing 42 games for the club in his first full season. He has been nominated for the FIFA World Player of the Year Award thrice in his career (2005, 2006, 2007) & won Chelsea's Player of the Year award in 2007, besides winning other individual trophies. Essien has a decent right foot, & has scored quite a few goals with powerful long-range shots (who will ever forget that equaliser he scored against Arsenal!). But numerous injuries and the emergence of talents such as Ramires & Oriol Romeu  at Chelsea have severely limited his game time. In the few games that he did play, he seemed to be a shadow of his former self. I admit it will be disappointing to see him leave, but I won't be shocked if he does.

Daniel Sturridge

3)Daniel Sturridge- Admittedly the surprise inclusion in my list. Daniel Sturridge joined Chelsea in 2009 as a talented young striker from Manchester City. Initially, he showed signs of promise whenever he was given a chance, most notably putting in some impressive performances during the 2009-10 FA Cup campaign in which he scored 4 goals, the most by any player in the tournament. However, limited first-team opportunities during the 2010-11 season saw him agree a loan deal with Bolton Wanderers. The loan spell was a successful one, as he scored 8 times for the club in 12 games. The appointment of new manager Andre Villas-Boas in 2011 meant Sturridge became a regular in the Chelsea starting XI during the season, playing mostly in a wide-right position. However, he earned some criticism for his supposed "selfishness" & happiness to shoot at sight. The fact that he constantly spoke about how he would prefer playing in the striker's position didn't earn him many fans either. A drop in form during the 2nd half of the season led to him being benched a lot under interim boss Roberto Di Matteo. And while it seems highly unlikely that Chelsea would want to sell him, everybody has a price.

Yossi Benayoun 

4) Yossi Benayoun- Probably the one player most likely to part ways with the club this season. Yossi Benayoun joined Chelsea in 2010 from Premier League club Liverpool for a fee of around £5.5 million. However, the Israeli international struggled to establish himself as a regular under Carlo Ancelotti, mainly due to a ruptured achilles in September that ruled him out for a majority of the season. He made his return for the club against Wigan Athletic on 9 April 2011. In the beginning of the 2011-12 season, he joined Arsenal on a 1-year loan deal, as he found his chances at Chelsea extremely limited. With his loan spell at The Emirates now complete, he has returned to Chelsea for the 2012-13 season. Whether or not he stays at the club remains to be seen, but one finds it hard to envision him in newly-appointed manager Roberto Di Matteo's long-term plans.

Chelsea FC is entering a new era. The current squad (including the above-mentioned players) is a decent one, but with some talented youngsters emerging from Chelsea's youth set-up & with Roman looking likely to go on another spending spree, one can hardly imagine us missing any of these players on my list if they do indeed leave. There is no doubt that they will always be remembered for their contributions to our success, but if any of these players do express a desire to leave, I have no doubt that the club will let them go.

6 Reasons the Blues Will Win the EPL in 2013

CHAMPIONS 09-10 

With RDM now appointed and some exciting signings already done and hopefully some more to follow things are really looking good for the Blues. The future of the club is secured with Champions League football guaranteed next season. The Blues had a morbid season in the domestic department. 

A dissapointing 6^th place finish which was our worst ever finish in the Roman era which is the only blot on our PERFECT season. We even finished below the Magpies and Spurs who parted company with Harry Redknapp yesterday. RDM did help us out in the league and we did beat teams well but much of the damage was done in the infamous AVB era.Anyways moving on from all that, the guys from BLEACHER REPORT UK recently published 6 reasons why they think that Chelsea can be crowned England’s champions again .These reasons are very apt and gives every Chelsea fan  a reason to be excited and ecstatic. 2 . UNDERDOG STATUS WILL HELP

Most seasons, Chelsea expected to be one of the teams that will be competing to be the Premier League winners.But since the emergence of Manchester City as big players in the English game, Manchester has looked like monopolising the title challenges.After Chelsea's below-par league performance last season, they aren't very fancied to lift the trophy in 2013, but this slight underdog status had been working in Chelsea's favour in the last few months. With most eyes on the two Manchester clubs to be battling for the title, the pressure is off Chelsea somewhat, and they can go about their business throughout the season and perform well.

The lads are all together and full of confidence...

3. PLAYERS FULL OF CONFIDENCE

Chelsea are understandably on cloud nine right now. Who wouldn't be?They are the newly crowned champions of Europe and have finally gotten their hands on the Holy Grail they wanted so badly.This will obviously give all the players a massive confidence boost, knowing that they are capable of beating the best teams in the continent, even when the odds are stacked heavily against them.Hopefully, under the guidance of Roberto Di Matteo, the players can take this confidence and use it to their advantage in the way they approach league games.

Any team can beat any team in the Premier League

4 . PREMIER LEAGUE HAS BECOME VERY OPEN

There is no doubt about it; the Premier League has become a far more open league in recent seasons.Points were being dropped all over the place by all teams, and that includes the bigger sides in the league.Arsenal had one of the worst starts to the Premier League imaginable but managed to battle back to gain third place, and the driving seat for the title changed hands many times.For Chelsea, it started well and got progressively worse under Andre Villas-Boas, but then fortunes changed when Roberto Di Matteo took over.If Chelsea could have kept up their form during the latter stages of the season for the entire campaign, they could have crashed the Manchester clubs' party.The open nature of the league could count against any club in the league, but on the other side of that, it gives any of the top clubs a shot at winning the league if they can keep up a good run of results.

5.RDM’s FULL TIME APPOINTMENT HAS MADE EVERYONE HAPPY

      Nobody is quite sure how he did it, but he changed Chelsea to a winning side in a matter of months.It could be a matter of luck, tactics or just that the players took to him, but something changed in the air at Stamford Bridge when Roberto Di Matteo stepped in to Andre Villas-Boas' shoes.Many of Chelsea's big players have expressed their admiration of Di Matteo and that they would be delighted if he was to be offered the job on a full-time basis.The players have finally gotten their wish. Di Matteohas been offered a contract and can be given an opportunity to build the Chelsea team in a a way he would like.

6.CHELSEA HAVE BEEN UP THERE BEFORE

This isn't an advantage that's exclusive to Chelsea, but it's an advantage all the same.During the end of a Premier League campaign, legs can get tired and minds run down, and concentration and focus can slip when the finishing line is in sight.Manchester City could have walked away with the league following their start, but as Manchester United crept up on them, their nerves jangled and they dropped points.Chelsea have won the Premier League three times, so the senior players will know what it takes to close out a season should they be in a position where they are fighting for the title as the campaign draws to a close.

A new era awaits for CHELSEA FC....

Well great stuff isn't it? Yes readers these reasons are pretty well thought off and well crafted. The guys from Bleacher report UK have highlighted some really good points. Yes we are the European Champions  and that way we can attract big names who will take the club to even further heights. The underdogs status  will help the Blues as they can perform without any extra pressure and play their game to the fullest.

The way the season turned around was phenomenal and the players now know they can beat any team be at Barcelona, Napoli, Bayern Munchen anyone the Blue players know anything is possible and will be very confident next season. The premier league is now even more open now any team can beat anyone, Wigan showed that so we can expect the Manchester Clubs to slip up as well as the league has become really very competitive. 

RDM did something at SW6 which no other manager has ever done. He's a fan's favorite the players adore him he loves the Club and his legacy with the club looks to continues as he has signed a new two year deal in Mr. Roman's quest to rehabilitate the team and start a new golden era at Chelsea Football Club with a string of new generation of players.

The Blues have been challenging for the title almost every season they are up there as they battle to be crowned England's top team. With the likes of JT,Lamps, Essien still there the new Chelsea team will not lack mettle and will have enough experience in them to battle it out with the other 19 teams with some fighting for the Championship, some for the European places and other battling out for their lives in order to be crowned Premier League Champions.

Tiki-Taka vs The Chelsea Way ?

The Euros are underway and all the fans would appreciate that finally there is some football to watch. Exciting times lie ahead as a lot of Europe's premier talents are on display. The transfer season is also open. You combine the two and gossip columns get overloaded. Clubs and fans alike will be keen to unearth a magical player for their club to sign.

We have had some interesting results so far with a few upsets. Well organized Danes got the better of the Dutch. Russia performed a Czech mate. Poland was held to a draw, after an inspiring start, by Greece. Among all this news, the catch phrase for this edition of the Euros seems to be 'The Chelsea Way'.

Wondering what it means? Commentators and pundits are using 'The Chelsea Way' to describe a defensive football strategy being employed by teams that are weaker on paper. Guess after centuries of football existence, only recently has anyone thought about playing a defensive game. Credits belonging to Chelsea.

Chelsea's Cinderella run leading up to the finals of the Champions League and eventually Frank Lampard, who goes down in history as the first ever Chelsea captain, lifting the coveted trophy has made the defensive football strategy most sought after these days. Now every team wants to play in 'The Chelsea Way'. Why? Because it gives the lesser fancied teams a shot at winning.

So was the tactics invented by Roberto Di Matteo? No. Recent examples: The Special One, Jose Mourinho lead Porto and Inter Milan to achieve Champions League victory. So what exactly is 'The Chelsea Way'?

It is simple. You organize your team in such a way that, you frustrate the opposition so much so that they forget defending and leave acres of space in a counter-attack. That is what happened when Ramires was allowed to run with a Frank Lampard diagonal ball from the halfway line, which eventually resulted in Drogba scoring a beauty of a goal against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League Semi-Final first leg. Well maybe it is not as simple as it sounds.

Without divulging too much into the tactics, this writer wants to ask you another question. As a loyal fan would you want your club to play Tiki-Taka (Barcelona & Spain) style of football or The Chelsea Way? Tiki-Taka style relies on the midfield players, a lot, to construct a short passing, keeping possession style of football and terrorizing the defense with loads of creativity and flair.

Drogba Consoling Messi

If you answered Tiki-Taka, there is a catch. Would you be content if your team plays Sexy football and only to remain trophy less for many seasons? Certain London rivals should come to your mind now.

Football is a professional sport today, has been for a while now. The key word is Professional. It is a livelihood for many, including the players to pitch curators and many more. It brings food to their table. It is not a sport that just serves as an entertainment. It is about winning. Although, the audience do like to be entertained.

As someone put it 'mildly', Chelsea were one penalty miss away from Europa League. If that had happened Chelsea would have stood to loose over a £100 million, which is a rough estimate. The actual figure could even be double or triple that. Just showing up for Champions League earns your club a lot of cash. If you think money isn't everything then think about this:
"Hazard signs for Manchester." Enough said?

The Champions League victory has given Chelsea a huge boost in the transfer market. Now the wonder kids WANT to come to Chelsea. Hazard has signed, Charly Musonda Jr and his brothers are on their way and many more young talents to come in the future.

Chelsea under Jose Mourinho did play Tiki-Taka. Surprised? Well, in parts that is. Under JM if Chelsea took the lead, whatever the opposition was, the team would sit back and keep the ball. It was up to the opposition to have a go at snatching the ball away from Chelsea, which was not easy to do. And if by any luck they did manage to get the ball, our players were very adept at destroying an advancing attack. Remember Makalele?

Not a bad haul for a player who was 'one dimensional'

JM had got one aspect of Tiki-Taka covered - Possession Football. What Chelsea lacked during his tenure was a flair player like a Hazard or a Modric. Not convinced? Chelsea did not have a Messi. If Chelsea had a Messi then Tiki-Taka would have been known as The Chelsea Way.

As a fan, I wouldn't care less If Chelsea play Sexy Football or a Defensive one. As long as my team wins, how it wins is not important. However, playing an entertaining style is also important in today's environment, to keep the fans happy.
